Since I wrote the following I have another insurance policy offered through Friendship Force so we can compare the coverage if you decide to join us.

EVERYONE MUST HAVE TRAVEL INSURANCE THAT INCLUDES MEDICAL UNLESS YOU HAVE YOUR OWN MEDICAL INSURANCE. MEDICARE DOES NOT COVER ANYONE OUT OF THE USA.

I would suggest you check out this site: http://www.insuremytrip.com. It allows you to compare some of the different choices available. I would suggest selecting something that covers trip interruption, bankruptcy of the company, airline, terrorism, etc. You are free to make your choices but remember that if something occurs the group will not be available to wait with you as it must continue on with the itinerary. It is safest to be prepared for all eventualities. If you are traveling with someone and departing and returning on the same date you might want to see how the price works out if you enter both. I was told that even if not co-insured; if your spouse, significant other, friend, etc., has to depart and you wish to accompany them you can always use the trip interruption part of the policy. Please confirm all I have written as I am far from an expert … and it’s always the small print that gets me.

The agent at insure my trip said that in terms of Israel she would recommend and AIG policy (TravelGuard). They apparently had a meeting with AIG and AIG is still including Israel in all their policies. Even though war is excluded in all policies the coverage through the trip interruption part of the policy would allow us to be evacuated if the US State Department was calling for all Americans to depart. You will want to take out the insurance within the week you make your payment to be able to waive previous medical conditions. This is yet another item you want the insurance to cover.

When you reach the site select on the left sidebar: Package Policies. Be sure to include in the cost all the checks you will have made out except the group kitty. Anyone having to withdraw from the trip will get a proportion of the monies refunded that have not been spent to that date. Ex: I’ve already purchased a calling card to call Israel. It is looking as though I’ll need another before the trip is finalized.
