SW Conf 2009

 

Inbound exchange from Lima and Tarapoto, Peru - September 15-22

 

Pam Varney Terrell is the Exchange Director. Contact her for more information or to volunteer in any capacity. Maureen Smith has already assigned home hosts, but please contact Jackie Bluhm to day host, Ruth Barrow or Barbara Jones to host or attend a small group dinner.

 

Contact Teresa Wilkin for addresses of home parties. Have all reservation forms back to her by September 10th. Please tell us if you are coming to any of these events, even if they are free or you are not buying anything, so that we can plan for how many will attend.

 

Schedule 

Sat Sept 15 

10 am - Hosts meet AA flight #1773 arriving from Miami

7 pm –  Welcome dessert party at home of Lee and Marilyn Cowley. No charge. Dessert pot luck. Help welcome our Peruvian Ambassadors …. Get creative – bring your best desert, fruit platter or cheese and crackers! Beer, wine and coffee will be served.

  

Sun Sept 16

10:30 am –  Tour of Mandolyn Horse Ranch in Aubrey near Denton (allow 1 hr 15 min. drive time); After the tour we will proceed by car caravan to a Spanish horse ranch for second tour led by Andres Guzman. 

 

2 pm: Lunch at Ernesto's Restaurant: 10279 E, Pilot Point

Mon Sept 17

9:45 am –  Dallas Day - 3 hour tour of downtown on DART bus, including Belo Mansion and Guadalupe Cathedral (meet at Spring Valley/ Greenville Dart Rail Station and take special DART bus -15 spaces only on the bus for FFD members; return to station at 5). Meeting place for those wanting to join on the walking part will be announced later. 

 

1:00 pm –  Box lunch at Pioneer Plaza (for as many as want to come) - $10 per Dallas person. Or just meet us there.

 

Tues Sept 18

Free day to visit museums or other points of interest according to interests of ambassadors. A list of suggested places to visit will be available at Welcome Party.

 

6:30 pm – Small group dinners in homes coordinated by Ruth Barrow and Barbara Jones. Contact one of them if you wish to host or attend a dinner.

 

Wed Sept 19

10 am –  Fort Worth Day - take cars to Sid Richardson Museum (meet in parking lot across the street at 10) - 309 Main St., Fort Worth. www.sidrmuseum.org  817-332-6554.

Visit stockyards, cattle drive at 11:30.

Lunch in the stockyards - choice of Chicken Fried Steak, Burger basket or large salad; Dallas people order and pay at the restaurant individually. 

Rest of the day free in Fort Worth. 

 

Thurs Sept 20

Free day as above.

 

Optional night out:
6-8 pm – Dallas Museum of Art for free jazz concert in Atrium – food available; crowded
Evening – Oktoberfest in Addison (check with Teresa Wilkin)

10 pm – Go salsa dancing (check with Paula Rose)

Fri Sept 21

Free day as above.

 

10:300 am – option to Arboretum (8525 Garland Rd., Dallas. 

214 515-6500. www.dallasarboretum.org) Pay at the gate - membership or $7.

 

6:30 pm: Western theme Farewell party at home of Ray and Elizabeth Enstam. Catered barbecue dinner. Wear your western clothes for photo ops. Dallas person $15.

 

Sat Sept 22

Depart: 12:25 pm - flight to Houston.

 

Reservations for the events listed must be received by Teresa Wilkin by Monday, September 10th. Make checks for those events to Friendship Force of Dallas.
